Staying Motivated
We know how hard it is sometimes to stay motivated and committed to your fitness journal. Trust me, I have been in your shoes many times. However, here’s our personal tips on how you can stay focused and disciplined to achieve all of your goals, whether it’s in the gym or in your everyday life.
1. Set Clear Goals
Specific and Measurable: Set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. We set a lot of these goals with our clients so they always know what they are working for, as well as what route they must take to get there.
Short and Long-Term Goals: Have both short-term milestones and long-term aspirations to keep you motivated.
2. Get into a Routine
Consistent Schedule: Establish a regular workout schedule to build a habit. Try to stick to this schedule as much as possible — make it a non-negotiable part of your day.
Mix It Up: Incorporate a variety of activities to prevent boredom and overuse injuries.
3. Track Your Progress
Journaling: Keep a fitness journal to log workouts, meals, and how you feel.
Apps and Gadgets: Use fitness apps or wearables to monitor progress and set reminders.
4. Stay Educated
Learn Continuously: Educate yourself about fitness, nutrition, and wellness.
Stay Updated: Follow fitness blogs, podcasts, or YouTube channels for new ideas and inspiration.
5. Find a Workout Buddy
Accountability: Partner with a friend or join a fitness group to stay accountable.
Social Support: Encouragement from others can boost motivation and make workouts more enjoyable. Everything is better with friends/family!
6. Celebrate Small Wins
Acknowledge Progress: Celebrate small achievements along the way. Small achievements produce momentum which helps you overcome any obstacle.
Rewards: Treat yourself to something nice (like a massage or new workout gear) when you hit a milestone.
7. Positive Self-Talk
Affirmations: Use positive affirmations to boost your confidence and mindset. Everybody is truly special in their own way, and you need to believe that you can be good enough before you actually can be.
Avoid Negative Talk: Challenge and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. DO FEAR FAILURE — Fear mediocrity.
8. Prioritize Rest and Recovery
Sleep: Ensure you get enough rest and quality sleep. Sleep is one of the most overlooked aspects of fitness — however it may be one of the most important aspects. Sleep is a crucial part to making changes to your body.
Recovery Days: Incorporate rest days into your routine to prevent burnout and injuries. You won’t lose any progress in the gym for taking a day or two off. If anything, it may help your body to reset, and usually you come back even stronger than before!
10. Remember Your Why
Purpose: Understand why you want to stay fit and remind yourself of this reason regularly.
Intrinsic Motivation: Focus on internal motivators like health, well-being, and personal satisfaction.
11. Create a Positive Environment
Supportive Network: Surround yourself with positive, like-minded individuals. There is a saying that you become similar to the people that you surround yourself with. Who do you want to be?
Inspirational Spaces: Find an inspiring workout space with motivational quotes and images. Whether that is in a space, or even in the people around you. There is inspiration everywhere you look.
12. Keep It Fun
Enjoyable Activities: Choose activities you enjoy to make exercise feel less like a chore. Not every exercise is for everybody. There’s plenty of exercises that you enjoy, and doing things you enjoy will help you stay committed. Even playing a leisure sport is considered activity, which makes workouts even more fun!
Music and Entertainment: Listen to your favorite music, podcasts, or audiobooks during workouts to keep things interesting.
